Announcements 1/25/15

Dear Sisters,
Our lesson this week was given by Sister Holly Manning from the following Conference talks:
Bishop Davies said, “As followers of the Savior, we have a personal responsibility to care for the poor and needy.” Elder Holland bears his testimony of helping the poor and needy in these words: “…when I see the want among so many, I do know that “there but for the grace of God go I.” I also know that although I may not be my brother’s keeper, I am my brother’s brother, and “because I have been given much, I too must give.”

Our lesson next week will be a Presidency lesson given by Sister Nichole Aldous and will be based on the talk by Elder Lynn G. Robbins titled, Which Way Do You Face?

Announcements 01/18

Dear Sisters,

Our lesson this week was given by Sister Karene Hanks and was from Chapter 2, Pray Always, in the Ezra Taft Benson manual. What a great lesson to reread- it has LOTS of ways to improve your prayers and many, many promises that result from continued family and personal prayer.  President Benson said, “Remember that whatever you do or wherever you are, you are never alone’ was my father’s familiar counsel to me as a boy. ‘Our Heavenly Father is always near. You can reach out and receive His aid through prayer.’ I have found this counsel to be true. Thank God we can reach out and tap that unseen power, without which no man can do his best.”

Next week’s lesson will be on the topic of Caring for the Poor and Needy and will reference the following articles: (make sure you print out and bring with you!) Are We Not All Beggars? by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, October 2014 General Conference The Law of the Fast: A Personal Responsibility to Care for the Poor and Needy by Bishop Dean M. Davies, October 2014 General Conference

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

Dear Sisters,

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Our lesson this week was given by Sister Pam Eames and was based on the talk given by Elder Richard G. Scott titled Make the Exercise of Faith Your First Priority. This is a talk on the basics of the gospel (and coincidentally our ward goals): daily prayer, daily scripture study, weekly FHE and regular temple attendance.
Prayer- Our Heavenly Father hears our prayers and he cares about everything in our lives. Elder Scott tells us to make prayer a “non-negotiable priority in your daily life.”
Scripture Study- Do we need to re-prioritize our life so that our scripture study gets done?  “If so, do it!” says Elder Scott.  He also tells us to make scripture study an “integral part of everyday life.”  Weekly FHE- Elder Scott cautions us to not let FHE become “just an afterthought of a busy day.”  Regular Temple Attendance “Don’t let anyone or anything prevent you from being there” says Elder Scott.

Next week’s lesson will be the Introduction and Chapter 1 of our new Ezra Taft Benson manual.

Announcements 01/01

Dear Sisters,

Our lesson this week was from Sister Hanks on Chapter 25 of the Joseph Fielding Smith manual: The Birth of Jesus Christ: “Good Tidings of Great Joy” President Smith said, “How can anyone read this touching story of the birth of Jesus Christ without wishing to forsake his sins? At this season of the year it is well for one and all—the king in his palace, if there are kings in palaces now, the peasant in his humble cottage, the rich and the poor alike—to bow the knee and pay honor to him who was without sin, whose life was spent in sacrifice and sorrow for the benefits of his fellow man; whose blood was shed as a sacrifice for sin. …”Sister Hanks showed us this beautiful Christmas video also.
Next week’s lesson will be from the following General Conference talks (please print out and bring them with you.):  Approaching the Throne of God with Confidence, Elder Jorg Klebingat, October 2014  Like a Broken Vessel, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, October 2013
