(<a href="https://www.lds.org/manual/teachings-of-presidents-of-the-church-ezra-taft-benson/chapter-4-living-joyfully-in-troubled-times?lang=eng" target="_blank">ETB 4</a>), please ponder these questions so that we can have instructive
class participation and benefit from the wisdom and experiences of each
other:<br /><br />
<ul>
<li>Why do you think faith in God gives us "hope for the future, and optimism in our present tasks"?</li>
<li>In what ways does the Lord help us when we are willing to endure trials faithfully?</li>
<li>Reflect
on a time when you needed to "righteously hang on"(section 2) during
adversity. Consider what you have gained from that experience.</li>
<li>How do our attitudes and perspectives on hardships and trials affect the outcome?</li>
<li>How can we as sisters make life better for those who are suffering through life's low points?</li>
<li>What kinds of service or kindness to others has brought you joy?</li>
<li>What happens to our worries when we busy ourselves with service and kind moments for others?</li>
<li>What are some experiences that have helped you know that Heavenly Father wants you to be successful?</li>
<li>Why do you think "happiness here and now consists in acknowledging God's will for us"? (section3)</li>
<li>What happens to us internally when we trust God as opposed to when we doubt He cares or notices?</li>
</ul>
<br />I
know there are a lot of questions and I don't know that we will address
each one, but I would like you to think about your experiences so that you
will be ready and willing to share on Sunday. ;)<br /><br />Thank you,<br />Karene HanksJasminehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01586808392402999765noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2801999604975716148.post-64580997353366562712015-02-08T20:26:00.000-08:002015-02-22T20:29:25.628-08:00Announcements 2/8/15<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt;">Our lesson this week was given by

is an eternal principle and this life is a time of testing where we have the
ability to choose between good and evil. Decisions we make determine our happiness
and those decisions require us to earnestly seek our Father in heaven. We
watched a beautiful video on Joseph Smith’s first prayer. This quote went along with it: “</span><i><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt;">The very salvation of millions of men and women in
the dispensation of the fulness of times depends upon that decision! We must
keep in mind that <u>individuals do matter and that decisions they make may
greatly affect the lives of others.”</u></span></i><i><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt;"></span></i></div>

are so many great quotes and thoughts in this talk!<span> </span>When we try to please man more than God, we

disobedience of men isn’t neutrality but duplicity.”<span> </span>“Lowering the Lords’ standards to the level

<br />
Our lesson this week was given by Sister Karene Hanks and was from
Chapter 2, Pray Always, in the Ezra Taft Benson manual. What a great
lesson to reread- it has LOTS of ways to improve your prayers and many,
many promises that result from continued family and personal prayer.
President Benson said, “Remember that whatever you do or wherever you
are, you are never alone’ was my father’s familiar counsel to me as a
boy. ‘Our Heavenly Father is always near. You can reach out and receive
His aid through prayer.’ I have found this counsel to be true. Thank God
we can reach out and tap that unseen power, without which no man can do
his best.”<br />
<br />
Next week’s lesson will be on the topic of Caring for the Poor and Needy
and will reference the following articles: (make sure you print out and
bring with you!)

This is a talk on the basics of the gospel (and coincidentally our ward

temple attendance.

everything in our lives. Elder Scott tells us to make prayer a

our scripture study gets done? “If so, do it!” says Elder Scott. He
also tells us to make scripture study an “integral part of everyday

<br />
Our lesson this week was from Sister Hanks on Chapter 25 of the Joseph
Fielding Smith manual: The Birth of Jesus Christ: “Good Tidings of Great
Joy” President Smith said, “How can anyone read this touching story of
the birth of Jesus Christ without wishing to forsake his sins? At this
season of the year it is well for one and all—the king in his palace, if
there are kings in palaces now, the peasant in his humble cottage, the
rich and the poor alike—to bow the knee and pay honor to him who was
without sin, whose life was spent in sacrifice and sorrow for the
benefits of his fellow man; whose blood was shed as a sacrifice for
sin. …”Sister Hanks showed us this beautiful Christmas video also.<br />

-Approaching the Throne of God with Confidence by Elder Jorg Klebingat (October 2014) and <br />

We had a great discussion about our intellectual, physical, spiritual
and social health and how we can respond when we are challenged in some
of those areas. Elder Holland says: “… never lose faith in your Father
in Heaven, who loves you more than you can comprehend. … That love never
changes. … It is there for you when you are sad or happy, discouraged
or hopeful. God’s love is there for you whether or not you feel you
deserve [it]. It is simply always there.” Never, ever doubt that, and
never harden your heart. Faithfully pursue the time-tested devotional
practices that bring the Spirit of the Lord into your life. Seek the
counsel of those who hold keys for your spiritual well-being. Ask for
and cherish priesthood blessings. Take the sacrament every week, and
hold fast to the perfecting promises of the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

Dear Sisters, </div>
<div dir="ltr">
Our lesson this week was on Chapter 23 of the Joseph Fielding Smith manual, titled Individual Responsibility. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
President Smith said:<br />
“It is my duty, as it is your duty, my brethren and my sisters
likewise—for responsibility is placed also upon you—to do the very best
that is within our power, and not to shirk, but endeavor with all our
soul to magnify the callings the Lord has given us, to labor diligently
for the salvation of our own house, each one of us, and for the
salvation of our neighbors, the salvation of those who are abroad.”</div>
<div dir="ltr">
We should ask ourselves the following questions as we read and study this lesson. <br />
-What can we do to help children be more responsible? <br />
-What can we do to be more self-reliant? </div>

Next week’s lesson will be Chapter 25 from the Joseph

Dear Sisters, </div>
<div dir="ltr">
Our lesson this week was on the Defining Moments that we
have in our lives that make us who we are. These defining moments are
moments of personal revelation for us. They are moments of guidance
from our Heavenly Father and moments that shape us into who Heavenly
Father wants us to be. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
We watched this video from Elder Uchtdorf and a couple of quotes from the lesson are as follows: </div>
<div dir="ltr">
“You are something divine—more beautiful and glorious than
you can possibly imagine. This knowledge changes everything. It changes
your present. It can change your future. And it can change the world.
You are no ordinary beings, my beloved young friends all around the
world. You are glorious and eternal. …“It is my prayer and blessing that
when you look at your reflection, you will be able to see beyond
imperfections and self-doubts and recognize who you truly are: glorious
sons and daughters of the Almighty God” (The Reflection in the Water ~
Dieter F. Uchtdorf ~ CES fireside ~ November 1st, 2009) </div>
<div dir="ltr">
“My dear friends, you are a royal generation. You were
preserved to come to the earth in this time for a special purpose. Not
just a few of you, but all of you. There are things for each of you to
do that no one else can do as well as you. If you do not prepare to do
them, they will not be done. Your mission is unique and distinctive for
you. Please don’t make another have to take your place. He or she can’t
do it as well as you can. If you will let Him, I testify that our Father
in Heaven will walk with you through the journey of life and inspire
you to know your special purpose here.” (Your Life Has a Purpose ~

Dear Sisters,<br />
<br />
This week our lesson was given by Sister Shelby Hansen on missionary
work and hastening the work. Elder Ballard tells us that one of the
reasons that we hesitate to do missionary work is because of fear. “With
the help of the Lord, let me remove any fear you or any of our
full-time missionaries may have in sharing the gospel with others. Make
the decision to do what Jesus Christ has asked us to do.” We had a
great discussion about fear and how some of the sisters have worked to
overcome their fear. Sister Hansen also referenced Elder S. Gifford
Nielsen talk and showed the following videos:

I would like to invite you to
participate in a "30 for 30" during the month of November. During each
day in November, you will have the opportunity to listen to a message
from one of our church leaders as part of your daily scripture study.
You could listen as a family or as an individual. You could listen while
at home, at work, or while driving. It doesn't matter how or when. If
you would like to participate, send an email to 466808@ldsmail.net with a
subject line of "30 for 30". You will then receive an email invitation
to a website called <a href="https://www.dropbox.com/m">dropbox.com</a>
that will have the thirty talks for you to download. They can be played
from your computer or any mobile device. They are numbed from 1 to 30 to
correspond with the days in November. We are blessed to live in a day
when the voices of apostles and other church leaders can be heard so
easily and conveniently. I promise that as you make the time for this
endeavor you will be uplifted, inspired, and edified. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
Thank you for all you do, and may the Lord bless you. </div>

Dear Sisters,<br />
<br />
This week our lesson was from Chapter 20 of the Joseph Fielding Smith
manual, Love and Concern for All Our Father's Children. Ultimately, we
can learn to love our neighbors, as ourselves, if we understand the
doctrine that we (you and I !!!) are a Child of God. President Smith
says, "I believe it is our solemn duty to love one another, to believe
in each other, to have faith in each other, that it is our duty to
overlook the faults and the failings of each other, and not to magnify
them in our own eyes nor before the eyes of the world... If we will do
this, respecting all the commandments of the Lord, we shall be a power
in the world for good; we shall overwhelm and overcome all evil, all
opposition to the truth, and bring to pass righteousness upon the face
of the earth." If you are struggling with someone this week, try to
find "one good thing" about them. Remember who they really are- a Child
of God.<br />
Next week, we will hear from Sister Stacey Wilhelmsen as she teaches
from our latest Conference addresses: Sister Cheryl Esplin's talk ,The
Sacrament- a Renewal for the Soul and a talk by Elder James J. Hamula,
The Sacrament and the Atonement. Please print out and bring these talks
with you.<br />
