Announcements 2/15/15

Dear Sisters,

Our lesson this week was given by Sister Karene Hanks from chapter 4 of the Ezra Taft Benson manual, Living Joyfully in Troubled Times.  With faith, we can earn happiness every day.  Our Father in Heaven will bless us as we follow His will because He wants us to be happy. Sometimes we have to simply “righteously hang on and outlast the devil” and in so doing, we will be able to look back and say “Yep, that happened.” “Be cheerful in all that you do.  Live joyfully.  Live happily.  Live enthusiastically, knowing that God does not dwell in gloom and melancholy, but in light and love.” We watched these Mormon messages: Come What May and Love It and Men’s Hearts Shall Fail Them.

Next week’s lesson will be on sharing the gospel and will come from the following General Conference articles:

Lesson Preparation for our next lesson

Sisters,

This week as you prepare for the Relief Society lesson (ETB 4), please ponder these questions so that we can have instructive class participation and benefit from the wisdom and experiences of each other:

  • Why do you think faith in God gives us "hope for the future, and optimism in our present tasks"?
  • In what ways does the Lord help us when we are willing to endure trials faithfully?
  • Reflect on a time when you needed to "righteously hang on"(section 2) during adversity.  Consider what you have gained from that experience.
  • How do our attitudes and perspectives on hardships and trials affect the outcome?
  • How can we as sisters make life better for those who are suffering through life's low points?
  • What kinds of service or kindness to others has brought you joy?
  • What happens to our worries when we busy ourselves with service and kind moments for others?
  • What are some experiences that have helped you know that Heavenly Father wants you to be successful?
  • Why do you think "happiness here and now consists in acknowledging God's will for us"? (section3)
  • What happens to us internally when we trust God as opposed to when we doubt He cares or notices?

I know there are a lot of questions and I don't know that we will address each one, but I would like you to think about your experiences so that you will be ready and willing to share on Sunday. ;)

Thank you,
Karene Hanks

Announcements 2/8/15

Dear Sisters,

Our lesson this week was given by Sister Michelle Stephan and was from Chapter 3 of the Ezra Taft Benson manual. Agency is an eternal principle and this life is a time of testing where we have the ability to choose between good and evil. Decisions we make determine our happiness and those decisions require us to earnestly seek our Father in heaven. We watched a beautiful video on Joseph Smith’s first prayer.  This quote went along with it: “The very salvation of millions of men and women in the dispensation of the fulness of times depends upon that decision! We must keep in mind that individuals do matter and that decisions they make may greatly affect the lives of others.”

Our lesson next week will be given by Sister Hanks and is chapter 4 of the Ezra Taft Benson manual, Living Joyfully in Troubled Times.

Announcements 2/1/15

Dear Sisters,
Our lesson this week was given by Sister Nichole Aldous on Elder Lynn G. Robbins’ talk titled, Which Way Do You Face? There are so many great quotes and thoughts in this talk!  When we try to please man more than God, we are “inverting the first and second great commandments.” “Decisions of character are made by remembering the right order of the first and second great commandments.”  “Thinking we can please God and at the same time condone the disobedience of men isn’t neutrality but duplicity.”  “Lowering the Lords’ standards to the level of a society’s inappropriate behavior is-apostasy.” Sisters, which way do you face?  Which side of the fence are you on?

Our lesson next week will be Chapter3 on free agency from the Ezra Taft Benson manual.

Announcements 01/18

Dear Sisters,

Our lesson this week was given by Sister Karene Hanks and was from Chapter 2, Pray Always, in the Ezra Taft Benson manual. What a great lesson to reread- it has LOTS of ways to improve your prayers and many, many promises that result from continued family and personal prayer.  President Benson said, “Remember that whatever you do or wherever you are, you are never alone’ was my father’s familiar counsel to me as a boy. ‘Our Heavenly Father is always near. You can reach out and receive His aid through prayer.’ I have found this counsel to be true. Thank God we can reach out and tap that unseen power, without which no man can do his best.”

Next week’s lesson will be on the topic of Caring for the Poor and Needy and will reference the following articles: (make sure you print out and bring with you!) Are We Not All Beggars? by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, October 2014 General Conference The Law of the Fast: A Personal Responsibility to Care for the Poor and Needy by Bishop Dean M. Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

Dear Sisters,

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Our lesson this week was given by Sister Pam Eames and was based on the talk given by Elder Richard G. Scott titled Make the Exercise of Faith Your First Priority. This is a talk on the basics of the gospel (and coincidentally our ward goals): daily prayer, daily scripture study, weekly FHE and regular temple attendance.
Prayer- Our Heavenly Father hears our prayers and he cares about everything in our lives. Elder Scott tells us to make prayer a “non-negotiable priority in your daily life.”
Scripture Study- Do we need to re-prioritize our life so that our scripture study gets done?  “If so, do it!” says Elder Scott.  He also tells us to make scripture study an “integral part of everyday life.”  Weekly FHE- Elder Scott cautions us to not let FHE become “just an afterthought of a busy day.”  Regular Temple Attendance “Don’t let anyone or anything prevent you from being there” says Elder Scott.

Next week’s lesson will be the Introduction and Chapter 1 of our new Ezra Taft Benson manual.

Announcements:

Dear Sisters,

Our lesson this week was from Sister Hanks on Chapter 25 of the Joseph Fielding Smith manual: The Birth of Jesus Christ: “Good Tidings of Great Joy” President Smith said, “How can anyone read this touching story of the birth of Jesus Christ without wishing to forsake his sins? At this season of the year it is well for one and all—the king in his palace, if there are kings in palaces now, the peasant in his humble cottage, the rich and the poor alike—to bow the knee and pay honor to him who was without sin, whose life was spent in sacrifice and sorrow for the benefits of his fellow man; whose blood was shed as a sacrifice for sin. …”Sister Hanks showed us this beautiful Christmas video also.
Next week’s lesson will be from the following General Conference talks (please print out and bring them with you.):  Approaching the Throne of God with Confidence, Elder Jorg Klebingat, October 2014  Like a Broken Vessel, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, October 2013
